Doughnut On A String
The kids in our backyard had been entertaining themselves in the background for some time, and as soon as we realized what they where up to, the enjoyment of their little game spread like wildfire. There wasn’t an adult in the group that could hold back the laughter as we watched the squealing gaggle of children below the deck, laughing and leaping for the dangling delights.
Our kids had gone fishing for crawfish early in the week which must have given them the idea. The sticks and strings were already rigged up, so why not?
If I had only know all along that I could get that much milage out of a box of doughnuts.
The intriguing thing was that it wasn’t just the idea of having a doughnut that was driving the kids wild. If the day old doughnuts had been sitting out on the table in plain site, I’m sure some of them would have been eaten, but not with half the drive and intensity this game had generated. I suppose it must have had something to do with the fact that it was dangling just out of reach.
Are the things you find yourself leaping and longing for things your really want, or is it just because their being dangled in front of you like a doughnut on a string?
